Have a hot tub in your home, and are wondering how to go about its cleaning? Well, first and foremost, let’s start by telling you that Spring is the most appropriate time to perform any cleaning and maintenance to your pool. Having said that, let me help you out by listing some steps on how you should go about cleaning your hot tub;
Step one: now, before
draining the hot tub, you can just apply the ‘jet clean’ to the water and then allow it to circulate the tub through the jets. Doing this ensures that you clean the pipes and the equipment out. Repeat this process every 3 years or so.
Step two:
completely drain your hot tub.
Step three: to clean the acrylic surface properly, it is recommended that you wipe the surface using a soft damp sponge or piece of cloth. What’s more, denatured alcohol or distilled vinegar are the most ideal choices of cleaning for the surfaces on your spa. When cleaning the surfaces, you are highly discouraged from using any cleaning products that contain any form of abrasive components as they dull the great-looking surface. These products include Ajax, Comet, Bon-Ami, or Lysol. Using harsh chemicals on acrylic surfaces is highly discouraged – they should never be used. In addition, you should also refrain from using any household liquid or soap detergent, as they will lead to the formation of foam.
Step four: refill the spa. When doing this, remember to turn your thermostat to ‘cold’ or minimum and let it remain until water fills your hot tub and all your jets or pumps are properly working. Once you establish that the jets and pumps are in good working condition, then turn the thermostat back to your desired setting.
Step five: this is the step where you balance the ph and alkalinity of the spa water. Now, this may take a few days, but is a must-do if you are to enjoy that pool.
Step six: apply start-up chemicals. This is of course in line with the directions in the Operation & Care Guide with regards to the chemicals you need to add.
Step seven: then apply natural Hot tub Nutrients to the water. Remember though, that you shouldn’t add these nutrients until the spa water is completely balanced – its alkalinity & Ph.
Additional cleaning tips
Clean filter
– basically, you need to
clean your filters at least every 4-6 weeks, which you can do by spraying with your garden hose. And if you don’t have a hose, you can run the filter through your dishwasher. Remember, you shouldn’t use soap or dry it by heat. To eliminate oil and grime from the filter, just use spray and rinse it. Maybe have a spare filter, to be exchanging if you decide to clean one, you can be using the other one.
Clean skimmer basket
– at least once every 1-2 weeks, you need to clean the skimmer basket. To do that, you need to unscrew the basket, take it out, and remove any debris present. Remember to turn off the spa before you remove the basket.
